Western North Carolina distinguishes itself from other mountain communities by its beauty and abundance of public lands with sweeping vistas that are protected from development. A multitude of outdoor and cultural activities and a location in close proximity to major metropolitan areas makes this region the perfect spot for people with a variety of interests. Summers are moderate at an elevation of 3,650 feet above sea level thus offering a mild, extended golfing season and temperate winter climate.

  • Local Activities
    • Western North Carolina is replete with outdoor activities and cultural opportunities. If you love water sports, there are outfitters to take you canoeing, white water rafting, kayaking, boating and fishing.

      You can take a ride on the Rocky Mountain railway or on horseback through a National or State forest. The area is known for its hundreds of waterfalls. The Biltmore Estate is less than an hour drive from Wade Hampton as are a number of local and regional specialty shops.

      Cultural opportunities abound such as the Groovin’ on the Green in Cashiers, the Brevard Music Festival, The Highlands Playhouse theater in Highlands and multiple live music and art galleries in Asheville in addition to a number of excellent area restaurants.
